Worldssp: Last Corner Heroics For Manzi The penultimate race of the WorldSSP season saw three riders trade the lead on eight different occasions.

Stefano Manzi, riding with a golden number 62 this weekend following his championship success, won after a daring last corner move on Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team). From the third row of the grid Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing’s Manzi delivered his 11th win of the season.

Can Oncu (Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team) inherited a podium finish after Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing Verdnatura) was given a penalty for exceeding track limits at the final corner. The leading group of five riders spent the race closely matched with Oncu’s teammate, Alberto Surra, finishing fifth but just 1.6s behind Manzi.

Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) started on the seventh row but came through to finish in seventh position. The British rider will start tomorrow’s race from the third row alongside Masia while Oncu claimed the pole position courtesy of his fastest lap.

  • Masia’s penalty cost him three points and dropped him two points behind Booth-Amos in their fight for the bronze medal in the World Championship.

P1 – Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing)
“It was a tight race with a lot of overtakes but with five laps to go I took the lead and then I fought with Jeremy Alcoba until the last corner. The wind made it tricky at Turn 1 and it was hard to ride without the slipstream. I made an old-school move with a bit of contact but it was clean and fair. I haven’t won here in a last-corner fight or a photo finish so this feels great! Tomorrow will be emotional with the special Yamaha livery and I hope to honour it with another good result.”
