WorldSSP: A new lap record was rewarded with a third Superpole of the campaign for Can Oncu (Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team).
The Yamaha rider suffered a technical issue on his fastest lap but he once again showed his speed to claim the pole position by two tenths of a second.
Championship leader Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) led for most of the session and ended second fastest having completed 21 laps.
A red flag with two minutes and six seconds left in the session gave an action packed final lap of the session with Alberto Surra one of only two riders to improve their time at the end of the session. Surra, making his WorldSSP debut for the Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team, set the seventh fastest time.
P1 – Can Oncu (Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team)
“I’m very happy and want to thank everyone. From Free Practice to the Superpole session the team did an incredible job. We stayed calm and focused on improving the bike. We made a big step forward. Unfortunately, we couldn’t put on another tyre to improve further because the engine stopped but luckily it was still enough for pole position. Tomorrow is the race, and we still have work to do, but I hope we can be back on top again.”
