González Wins Red Bull Rookies Race 2 In Misano With Classic Last Corner Pass On Uriarte

Red Bull Rookies Cup: David González pushed his KTM to the absolute maximum.

He made a perfect, limit-extending, last-second braking pass, diving inside Brian Uriarte into the final corner to win the last race of the 2025 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup season.

Marco Morelli was right there with a fine 3rd just ahead of Zen Mitani and Veda Pratama. 0.667 seconds covered the group at the line. Pratama was dropped to 5th with a 3-second penalty ‘due to irresponsible riding’.

David González 1st
“I’m very happy for my first victory in the last race of the season and with a pass at the last corner,” enthused the 17-year-old Spaniard with a huge smile. “The race was difficult because the condition of the track is so tricky, with damp patches that could catch you out, and they limited where you could overtake.”

“But I enjoyed the fighting with four other riders. Every time, every moment, we were passing. Then on the last lap, I think Brian and me, we took a little gap over Morelli, Mitani and Pratama down the back straight. I tried to pass Brian but couldn’t, there was just the last corner, my last chance. I went up the inside, super late on the brakes, but the bike stopped, and I could win.”

Brian Uriarte 2nd
“It’s been such a fantastic 2 seasons in the Rookies Cup, and this opportunity has given me the chance to move into Moto3. That is incredible,” stated the 2025 Red Bull Rookies Cup winner. “I have enjoyed the racing, the support, the friendships that I will never forget.”

“Two seasons, 18 podiums, 2 poles. OK, so I didn’t close the door to David (González) at the final corner, but it was a great race like so many of the others and so much fun. I will enjoy seeing everyone in the paddock again next year, thanks everyone,” concluded the 17-year-old Spaniard.

Marco Morelli 3rd
I had a good way to finish the championship,” enthused the 18-year-old Argentine. “I am very happy with the last two rounds, Austria and here in Misano. I felt so competitive, so good.”

“Today, the track condition was super tricky in the first laps. But on the sighting laps, I felt good, I understood the conditions, but starting from 9th on the grid, it was more difficult, with the damp patches, fewer places to overtake.”

“But then I got to the front and could run P1, and I think we broke the group. I couldn’t win, but I so much wanted to take the podium because last year Alpinestars gave boots, yesterday’s trophy was OK, but I wanted a boot.”

Zen Mitani 4th
“I did all my best,” stated the Japanese 18-year-old. “They are so strong. My shoulder didn’t hold me back; I did everything I could. It was so hard to pass with the damp patches; there were not as many places to pass as yesterday. It was a great battle, and I am happy to be so competitive at the end of the season.”

Veda Pratama 5th
“It was a good race and a difficult race,” explained the 16-year-old Indonesian, who takes 2nd in the Cup as Hakim Danish slid off. “Difficult conditions because it’s really slippery, and some corners had the wet patches.”

“My last lap was not so good. But it is important that I finished second in the championship.”

“In the last lap, I made a bit of a mistake before the back straight and could not pick up the slipstream of the 2 in front. I changed the sprocket for the race, for the low gearing, and I touched the limiter more than yesterday. But it helped out of the corners because I struggled yesterday.”

Giulio Pugliese 6th
“I enjoyed the race,” stated the Italian 16-year-old. “I got a good start and was in the battle, but I made a mess of one gear change and lost so many places, and was so far back. I got to the front of the second group, but there was no chance to catch the front guys.”
