WorldSSP: The battle for the victory went down to the final lap after a stunning comeback ride from Stefano Manzi.

At one third distance the Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing trailed his championship rival Can Oncu by 3.2 seconds. The final third of the race saw Manzi set a consistent pace to pull back the margin and he pounced at the Imola Chicane on the final lap to claim the victory.

After leading all but one lap, Oncu’s podium, his fifth in a row, will have left him disappointed. Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) rounded out the podium finishers with his eighth of the season. The Triumph rider led home a four rider group separated by 1.5s.

A race long duel saw Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) claim his best result of the season ahead of Corentin Perolari (Honda Racing World Supersport) with the home rider once again the leading Supersport Challenge rider.

The opening laps saw plenty of incidents with Lucas Mahias (GMT94-YAMAHA) crashing at Turn 5 after contact from behind. Having finished on the podium yesterday Alberto Surra (Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team) once again impressed in Race 2. The Italian debutant made a fast start to run in second position. The 21 year old crashed at the start of Lap 3 and later retired.

Championship Highlights

  • Manzi’s fourth win in a row extends his Championship lead to 69 points from Oncu
  • Yamaha sealed the Manufacturers Championship with their latest victory opening their margin to Ducati to 173 points

P1 – Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing)
“I’m over the moon! This was one of my best races! The start was good and I was already in front but Surra crashed before the main straight and his bike was in the middle of the track. I had to brake to avoid him and I lost three seconds to Can. The group behind overtook me so at one point I thought today would just be P2 for me. I never give up and today was no different. I managed to close a big gap in the last few laps and overtake him in the final sector. I’m really happy.”
