Worldssp300: Fernandez Claims The Victory And In The Title In Spectacular StyleThe final ever WorldSSP300 race began with four title contenders.

The top three were separated by just three points and over the course of eleven laps of action the fight was settled by a drag race to the line.

The final lap saw Benat Fernandez (Team#109 Retro Traffic Kove) hold off his rival David Salvador (Team ProDina XCI) by just 0.019s although Salvador was penalised for exceeding track limits and eventually finished outside the points. Into the final corner Fernandez held a tight line whereas Carter Thompson (MTM Kawasaki) was forced around the outside. The Australian was classified in sixth position after a series of penalties.

Championship Highlights

  • Fernandez won the title by 18 points from Thompson with Salvador a further ten points adrift.
  • The ProDina XCI claimed the Teams Award.

World Champion Benat Fernandez (Team#109 Retro Traffic Kove):
“I feel incredibly happy! This is what I’ve worked for. The team has been amazing because at the start of the year things were chaotic after Kobe left. To win on my debut felt unbelievable and since then, the goal has always been to stay at the front and do my best every race. Today it all came together. We gave 100% for me and I just believed in us. I’m so proud and thankful to everyone around me.”
