The NMAX 155 Tech MAX is supplied exclusively with a premium specification that includes dedicated colours as well as a connected 4.2-inch TFT dashboard, free Garmin Navigation* and a leather-finish seat. Together with the unique riding experience provided by the special YECVT transmission, the NMAX 155 Tech MAX’s high specification and stronger performance are sure to be appreciated by riders with an A1 licence who want to step up from a 125 whilst retaining all the benefits associated with the lightweight category.
Building on the huge sales success of the NMAX
In 2025 Yamaha’s market leading Sport Scooter range got a significant boost with the addition of two dynamic new models: NMAX 125 and NMAX 125 Tech MAX. Created with pure MAX DNA – and featuring a strong focus on sporty style together with first class build quality, these two new lightweights project an instantly recognisable MAX look. And now with the addition of the new NMAX 155 Tech MAX this family of premium Sport Scooters offers even more choice.
With a winning formula of dynamic MAX design, easy accessibility and value for money, the NMAX has gone from strength to strength, with over 180,000 registrations in the EU market – and almost 5 million sales globally. Today the NMAX accounts for more than 1 in 4 of all Yamaha scooter sales in Europe, making it the best-selling Yamaha Sport Scooter.
New YECVT transmission: Next level Sport Scooter riding experience
The NMAX experience is taken to the next level of enjoyment with the adoption of an innovative new YECVT transmission design. By allowing the rider to select their preferred running mode, this special technology delivers a new kind of Sport Scooter ride that is comparable to a geared motorcycle.
The new YECVT (Yamaha Electric Continuously Variable Transmission) enables NMAX 155 Tech MAX riders to have instant control of the engine character by switching to Sport or Town mode. In Sport mode the transmission ratio is reduced significantly in order to achieve higher rpm for faster acceleration – while in Town mode the rpm is lower for a more laid-back ride. For example, when running at 60 km/h while accelerating, the rpm in Sport mode is 6,000 rpm, while in Town mode it is 5,000 rpm.
The YECVT system also affects the running characteristics when decelerating, with Sport mode giving greater engine braking than Town mode, particularly in the mid speed region between 60km/h and 30 km/h. The mode is selected using the left side switchgear – and if the machine is turned off and restarted the NMAX 155 Tech MAX will retain the last used mode.
Downshift feature for greater riding enjoyment
A key new technology seen on the NMAX 155 Tech MAX is the Downshift function that delivers stronger acceleration when the rider presses the Shift button or opens the throttle rapidly. This unique Downshift feature can also be used to increase engine braking during deceleration, giving the rider an increased level of controllability when slowing down.
Together with the Sport and Town modes, the Downshift function enables NMAX 155 Tech MAX riders to enjoy the engine running characteristics normally associated with a geared motorcycle, making for a sporty and rewarding riding experience.
Responsive 155cc EURO5+ Blue Core engine
The 155cc EURO5+ engine has been developed using Yamaha’s exclusive Blue Core technology that focuses on achieving minimal fuel consumption together with high levels of running efficiency and reduced emissions. Its advanced specification includes Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology, as well as a newly designed crankshaft, crankcases, air cleaner, exhaust, oil pump – and there’s a new hydraulic cam chain tensioner that helps to reduce friction.
To facilitate the YECVT transmission system the engine is equipped with a new DC motor that can instantly change the scooter’s reduction ratio when the rider presses the Shift button. A Start & Stop system turns the engine off when the machine comes to a standstill and automatically starts up when the brakes are released and the throttle activated – and the Smart Key ignition allows the rider to operate the scooter keylessly.
Dynamic MAX styling
Yamaha’s MAX Sport Scooter movement started in 2001 with the launch of the legendary TMAX that changed everything. The worldwide success of this flagship model inspired the development of the MAX range, and every scooter in this best-selling line up shares the same pure MAX DNA that gives them a unique look and a commanding presence on the street.
Featuring charismatic bodywork with Yamaha’s signature Boomerang design – as well as short front and rear overhangs and a dominant looking face with a vertical front fairing – the NMAX 155 Tech MAX projects a strong and dynamic image.
Spacious footboards allow for a flexible riding position to match different riding situations, and the well-designed interior gives a natural riding position and promotes feelings of riding confidence.
4.2-inch connected dashboard
Constructed to a premium specification, the NMAX 155 Tech MAX is equipped with a full colour 4.2-inch TFT display featuring Garmin Navigation.* Offering a choice of two screen displays, this connected dashboard enables riders to view notifications of emails, messages and calls, as well as listen to music** and answer incoming calls**. To access these features riders first need to download Yamaha’s MyRide App, and this intuitive system opens up a wide range of useful functions that enhance the riding experience.
*Full map Garmin Navigation is available free of charge with the NMAX Tech 155 MAX. It is not offered in all countries, and some navigation features are not available in all countries. Speed limit data may also not be updated in a timely manner and speed limits may change depending on the time of day, such as in school zones or around construction sites.

Exclusive leather-like seat
As well as its connected instruments and special YECVT transmission, the NMAX 155 Tech MAX’s premium specification includes a high quality leather-like seat with gold coloured stitching and welded embossing. These special features not only serve to ensure a very special ride quality, but they also reinforce the feelings of pride of ownership that has helped to make the MAX range one of the best-selling line ups in the European market.
Compact chassis with comfortable suspension
Beneath the dynamic MAX bodywork there’s a strong and light backbone frame that gives an idealized balance of flex and rigidity that contributes towards the NMAX 155 Tech MAX’s agility. The latest design telescopic front forks provide 100mm of wheel movement for excellent comfort and easy controllability – and the twin shock rear suspension with separate reservoirs provides 91mm of progressive travel to ensure excellent ride quality with high levels of riding comfort.
13-inch wheels, 230mm disc brakes
Lightweight 13-inch aluminium wheels are fitted with a 110/70-13 front tyre and a wide 130/70-13 rear tyre that give excellent roadholding, and the low unsprung weight contributes to the bike’s responsive and comfortable suspension characteristics.
For smooth and effective braking, the NMAX 155 Tech MAX is fitted with 230mm front and rear discs with ABS, giving added riding confidence in wet or slippery conditions.
Generous storage
NMAX 155 Tech MAX riders have plenty of space to carry everything from groceries to a helmet in the underseat compartment, and the two front pockets – one featuring a waterproof lid and USB-C charger – are perfect for keeping smaller items.
Full LED lighting
Dual eye LED position lights give the NMAX 155 Tech MAX an imposing face, while the vertically stacked projector headlights provide a powerful low and high beam – and the fully integrated LED front flashers are mounted high in the chassis. The bold and bright full LED front lighting gives the NMAX 155 Tech MAX a strong presence on the street, enhancing this Sport Scooter’s conspicuity amongst other road users.
The compact LED taillight incorporates futuristically styled horizontal strip type lights and the fully integrated slimline rear LED flashers reinforce the NMAX 155 Tech MAX’s sporty and contemporary lines.
