A famous advertising scooter, and another formerly owned by a champion scooter racer, are among the early entries for H&H Classics’ Vintage Scooter Auction in October.

The sale, which takes place on Wednesday 29th October at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull, West Midlands, is H&H’s last classic motorcycle and vintage scooter auction of 2025.

One of the star scooters going under the hammer is a 1965 Lambretta GT200 “Stella Artois”, the actual scooter used in the 1999 ‘Reassuringly Expensive’ advertisement.

A 1965 Lambretta GT200 “Stella Artois”, the actual scooter used in the 1999 ‘Reassuringly Expensive’ advertisement, is set to go under the hammer on 29 October with H&H Classics.

The instantly recognisable tagline is one of the most successful ever created in the advertising world.

As well as its advertising claim to fame, this Lambretta, estimated at £8,000-£10,000, has a correct numbers engine, boasts a pleasing patina and is in fine running order having been regularly used.

Not to be outdone, and also going under the hammer with H&H Classics, is a 1964 Vespa 50S estimated at £4,000-£5,000, which used to belong to the famous scooter racer Elizabeth Smolen.

The story of Elizabeth Smolen is an amazing tale, starting when she escaped from behind the Iron Curtain through to her being crowned ‘Scooter Queen’ following her three-year winning streak at the Isle of Man Scooter week meeting.

Successful in business as well as on the race track, she ran the Elizabeth Smolen official Vespa dealership for Wirral, Merseyside.

Elizabeth Smolen’s former scooter is accompanied by a large history file, including Smolen dealership paraphernalia, original photographs, news clippings, and more.

Paul Diamond, vintage scooter specialist at H&H Classics, said: “Our auction is a major opportunity for a serious collector of vintage Vespas and Vespa history to acquire this 1964 Vespa 50S, formerly enjoyed by Elizabeth Smolen.”

Other notable vintage scooters being auctioned include a 1963 Lambretta TV200 (225), given a guide price of £8,000-£10,000. It boasts an impressive specification and a very unique customisation, including the engine size being increased to 255cc with enhanced carburettor and Sterling exhaust.

Paul added: “We’ve set a high bar with the early entries for our vintage scooter sale as we look to end 2025 with a flourish.”

Owners of classic motorcycles and vintage scooters looking to benefit from the high levels of interest in H&H’s auction by selling with them at their next motorcycle and vintage scooter sale at the National Motorcycle Museum, on 29th  October, can contact the team to discuss their entry on 01925 210035 or email sales@handh.co.uk.
